Advent Calendar 2015 - Day 18

The Julbock or Yule Goat is Scandinavian and Northern European Yule/Christmas symbol that is made of straw. Its origins may predate Christianity. In the pre-Christian days, and in modern Pagan time, goats are associated with Thor, the Norse god of thunder, who rode a  chariot that was drawn by his two goats Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr.

Pearl Harbor Day

Blessed are those that faced this day west of Honolulu, Hawaii at the U.A. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor and the U.S. Army Wheeler Field and Hickam Field (both now USAF - United States Air Force) . As Hawaii was being attacked there was almost simultaneous attacks on the American Territories of Guam, the Philippines, and Wake Island as well as the British Empire in Singapore, Malaya and Hong Kong. The attacks - from the landing of troops in Malaya to the attack at Pearl Harbor - took place in only a seven hour time frame. This was seen by the Imperial Japanese as  preemptive strikes to keep the American Pacific Fleet from interfering in the Empire of Japan's planned actions in southeast Asia against the territories of Britain, the United states and the Netherlands.

So as we remember the Americans that died this day at Pearl Harbor let us not forget the lives that were killed from Guam to Malaya. Bless them and keep them all, no matter their religion.

McQueen Monday #11

This is from McQueen's Fall/Winter 2007 collection. I love the back. It has bit of maybe late Renaissance or maybe early Victorian. I am not really certain but I do wish I knew what the front looks like. I am still searching for a photo of the front of this dress.

Advent Calendar 2015 - Day 8

Red Ornaments in Trees - Salzburg, Austria

Good Morning

The lighthouse in Bioxi...or is it Gulfport? Anyway, it is on the Mississippi Gulf coast and it was one of my favorite place to go when I was little. The last time I was there was about two months before Hurricane Katrina attending a family reunion. I can still smell the salt water of the Gulf of Mexico.

McQueen Monday #10

Alright I am going to get right to it and dive in with the first picture. It  is in my favorite color...red. I like the dress and the waist cincher/corset that is with it but something needs to be done with the model's hair. I mean her hair is just BLAH. A store mannequin would have better hair that is if it had a head. I know she is young and has no say so on how she should look but whoever idea it was for this hair style needs to be slapped.

From Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2015

Second outfit and let me see if I can be a little less critical. No I can't be less critical. I call her Mrs. Edward Scissorhands.

Lovely dress, if you don't mind the pink pampas grass at the bottom and I don't, for Spring 2016. No qualms about the model.
